News items

  • Jie and I will be on vacation from April 6-16—in New Orleans and Houston.  In case of emergency—I can be reached at 217-898-3148.
  • The Sunday I am gone (April 5) will feature 3 people from the church who will speak on why they started coming to First Church and why they continue to come.  It is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks for what this congregation means to different people.
  • An important events taking place while I am away:
    • On April 10 and 11, Cunningham Children’s Home will have their annual quilt festival in Urbana.  This year’s festival will include a memorial recognition for our own Joyce Shellabarger (mother of Samantha Berner) and longtime supporter of the Children’s Home.
  • Teresa Lane has volunteered to organize the welcome for the new pastor and his family—in early July.  See her if you would like to have any input.  Dates will be announced later.
  • Melissa Kreiger will lead Vacation Bible School this year.  It will be a new format—taking place on the four Saturday mornings in June. See Melissa if you would like more information or like to be a part of this ministry to our community’s children.
  • Yvonne Workman has volunteered to head up our church’s involvement in the July 4 parade.  See Yvonne to get more information or to get involved.
  • Graduation Sunday will be May 17.  Melissa Kreiger is organizing the event and asks everyone to get names to her of graduates.
  • The following events have no takers so far (to lead our organizing):  Mother’s Day observation and Father’s Day worship in the park.  If you want to be a part of organizing them, drop me a text, email me, or give me a call:  217-898-3148 or jms754@gmail.com  SOON.
  • I will be leading a 7 session Bible Study on Tuesday mornings (10 a.m. on April 21 and 28, May 5, and June 2, 9, 16, and 23).  The erratic dates are working around my travel schedule this spring.  The Bible study will be repeated on Wednesday evenings at 6 p.m. on April 22 and 29, May 6 and 27, and June 10, 17, and 24.  The topic will be the Book of Revelation—presented from an angle quite different from the “scary predictions” taught most commonly.  My approach will be similar to the ways I have explained scripture in the Sunday morning sermons.  The sessions are open and no registration is required.  But it would be helpful to let me know if you plan to attend so I can prepare handouts in advance.
  • Tomorrow will be the last “Daily Post” until April 17—unless there is an emergency message that needs to get out.  Be sure and get any information to me by noon tomorrow if you want it sent out.
