April 22 (Wednesday) Pastor’s Post

Sullivan UMC—J. Michael Smith

Prayer Concern:  We are saddened to report that Gene Dolan, father of Paula Coffer, passed away this week.  Gene had been included in our prayer concerns for several weeks.  Please keep his family, including Paula, Tim, Gareth, and Anyssa in your prayers.  The funeral is Saturday and the funeral dinner will be at 4:30 in our church.

A good Church Council meeting last night:  positive, productive, efficient—with a great deal of good will and team work.  I actually enjoyed myself at it!  Some of the highlights:

  • The trustees are selling the church van if you or anyone you know is interested.  We have other options at this time for needs the church has—and it is time for the van to find a new home.  If you are interested, talk to Chip Hagen, Dave Sowers, or Trevor Poe for more information.
  • Work will begin soon on the parsonage.  The trustees are creating a list of things that need to be done and some volunteer jobs that will help us prepare the home for our next pastor.  There will be an open house at the parsonage Saturday—I’ll let you know the exact times in tomorrow’s post.
  • The Church Council passed a revised building policy.  It is based on past building policies, with a gentler, kinder, and more articulate list of things that people need to know.  I will post a link to that document in tomorrow’s correspondence.
  • The Church Council also approved job descriptions for the three part-time office positions—and I will post the link for those also tomorrow.

Two very well attended Bible Studies—19 at the Tuesday morning session and 14 at the Wednesday evening one.  If you want to attend and were not able to, you can start at any time.  Let me know if you would like to have the notes to catch up.  Always happy to have people join us.
